MATCH REPORT

Essex Olympian Football League

Senior Division One

Epping 0 v Canning Town 3

Epping had an opportunity to go second if they had won this match, but with three key players in goalkeeper Jon Thomas, centre-back Dave Costello and Leon Rolle all unavailable due to work commitments, three points were not a foregone conclusion and this was to be proven. Canning Town belied there lowly league position and looked the better side from the start, with Epping looking lethargic. The visitors went 1-0 up after 20 minutes when Dave Annobil conceded possession in the opposing half and Canning Town broke and scored through Paul Henry. Epping attempted to get back into the game and Adam Connolly hit a post but that was as close as they were going to come to equalising. The second half continued in much the same pattern, with Canning Town playing straightforward, efficient and progressive football, whilst Epping were poor with their decision making. The visitors went 2-0 up with virtually an identical goal. Adam Connolly conceded possession in the middle of the park and the ball was played into Henry who tucked the ball past Epping keeper Steve Poole. The visitors third goal came after a break down the right and the ball was played in to Ashley Neville who comfortably scored past keeper Poole. This was easily Epping's worst performance so far this season and with tough away games coming up against Harold Wood and White Ensign, it could be a tough few weeks ahead.
